Blairgowrie

Located just a stone’s throw from the wild Blairgowrie rockpools, this humble renovation draws its soul from the rugged intersection of land and sea.

The design concept explores the tension of the coastline—where man-made structures straddle the beautiful, unpredictable edge of the ocean.

Inspired by iconic tidal architecture, such as Álvaro Siza’s Piscina das Marés, the material palette was curated to reflect the fluid geometry of the coast.

The interior serves as a tactile translation of the coast. Expressive Viola and Verde marbles were selected to emulate the rhythmic movement of water, while accents of electric-blue tempered metal capture the sky’s reflection in a calm tide. To ground these luxurious elements, the home is wrapped in warm, stained plywood and finished with a rough, stone-like tile, introducing a textural grit that mirrors the natural shoreline.

To ensure the home remained a warm, inviting sanctuary, we balanced these high-end finishes with stained plywood cabinetry. By designing the kitchen and island to appear freestanding, we transformed functional elements into pieces of furniture, fostering a casual, "un-fitted" atmosphere.

The result is a beach house that feels both elevated and effortless—a place where luxury is drawn down to meet the relaxed rhythm of life by the sea.
